Restorative yoga is like finding the gold of this ancient and scientific practice. With classes more and more driven by building strength, stamina and resilience, (all beneficial for healthy development), we often neglect our need for deep rest and rejuvenation. A restorative practice, is one where we hold postures for a long time, with the support of bolsters, blankets and blocks.
Through this support and conscious relaxation the body is able to rest more deeply than when we sleep. Restorative yoga stimulates the bodies parasympathetic nervous system, releases muscular tension and joint pain and is nourishing and healing on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. Not everyone immediately experiences the calming effects of a restorative practice as stillness in our fast paced society brings about its own challenges. However, with practice and patience, a restorative practice cultivates perspective, growth and holistic well being.
All practices conclude with tea and a treat and time to discuss all things yoga.
